Fun for everyone!

It has now become a customary event for the St Davids Peninsula Tourist Association to organise a 'Sand Church' Competition on Whitesands Beach near St Davids, during one day in the summer holidays.

Arrive early!

Entry into the competition is free but unfortunately has to be limited to the first 60 groups who enrol on the beach on the day. Each group will be allocated a 15 ft sq part of the beach. Only the sand from within this area is allowed to be used to build a religious structure. Construction digs in at 11.30 am and judging will be at 3:30 pm.
 

The Sand Church Competition day varies each year so as to fit in with the tides. The judging is over before the incoming tide arrives!

3 Categories .  .

The Sand Church Competition is split into 3 Categories with the winner of each category receiving £25 in prize money. In 2015 there will be three additional prizes of £10 each for highly commended sand churches.
 

*Note: the organisation of the winning Group entry will receive the prize money.
    

The digging and building starts .  .	Steeples are high !
Every detail counts .  .	Designs are varied.
Rules There are a few rules which will be said on the day. Please note that only natural materials (e.g. pebbles, sea weed) which are found on the beach may be used. No 'foreign' materials such as flags are allowed.
The sea is still a long way off .  .	even the grave stones are there.

Judging at 3:30 pm

Judging will be done by 3 independent people and takes place at 3:30 pm. They will announce the winners who will each receive their £25 prize money along with three highly commended prizes of £10 each.

Remember that when the sun shines your skin is at risk and your religious structure will crumble. So pack sun cream and don't forget a water spray to keep the sand moist!
